Why buy toys?

Yesterday I was opening mail, which is one of Charlie's favourite activities. You see, he LOVES paper. All kinds of paper, all kinds of paper products. Envelopes, cards, letters, cardboard, magazines... well, you get the idea. Anyway, as I began to open a packet I noticed Charlie sitting below me with unbridled anticipation. I couldn't disappoint him so of course I let the empty packet fall to the floor. He immediately pounced upon it and began happily rolling around on the floor biting the bag. He was just too adorable and so I had to grab my camera and get a couple of snaps.

"Thanks Mum" he seemed to say...

"I'll take care of this for you immediately!" What a good little helper he is too. Why, within moments he had reduced the bag to shreds!

This made me start thinking, why do we even bother buying these guys toys? They have every toy imaginable and yet it seems their favourite things to play with are ordinary household objects! The same is true of Munchkin, nothing makes that cat happier than a twist-tie from a loaf of bread. In fact, here's a picture from a month or so ago of Denny & Charlie:

They're playing tug-o-war with something....what can it be?

It's Mum's mascara!
