Just Phoebe
Many changes have been taking place around the Towers as of late. So many changes, in fact, that we have been trying to think of a new name for our home. In the UK it is common for people to give a name to their home. Names like "The Conifers" or "Rose Cottage" are common. Our old house was Denny Towers. Then it became Denny & Charlie Towers. Poor little Munchkin (the cat) was never included in the title, but she has never seemed to mind. Plus we had the addition of Alfie just before Halloween. And the changes continue…
As anyone who knows us knows, we have been very involved lately in the new rescue group PugHearts of Houston. In fact, we have been fostering a very special girl named Phoebe. Yes, to those of you who emailed saying they thought they saw a 4th dog on the webcam - you were correct! We didn't want to say much about it, as we knew she would be adopted out. Sure enough, she has been adopted. Yes, it's official, we are Failed Fosters!!!

We are proud to report that this little girl has come into our home and hearts and captivated us all! Charlie has a new playmate (much to Denny's relief.) She's such a little tomboy and has the ability to completely wear Charlie out - something we didn't think was possible. But then she lays down next to Denny or Alfie and gently snuggles them. All of our boys have been quite taken with her - even the big human boy! It's absolutely amazing how well she has fit into our household.

Funnily enough, when we agreed to foster her we felt that she would be a good fit because she was definitely NOT a dog we would've considered adopting. We had talked about adding a senior female, and Phoebe is just 2 years old. She was too young, too active and just not what we were looking for. Perfect to foster, but not for us to keep. But then she began to grow on us. We were pleasantly surprised at how she kept Charlie in check. She also blended well with Denny and Alfie, with no fighting or competition. And then there was how she acted with Richard and myself. Soon after she arrived Richard and I began to see clues to the life she led before she came here. We were determined to show her that people can be gentle and loving. We made it our mission to earn her trust and felt truly blessed when she gave it to us.

We vowed to her that we would never let her feel scared or be mistreated again. Soon we realized we were going to be very critical of anyone who tried to adopt her. Shortly before Richard left for the UK, he made me promise that I wouldn't let her be adopted out until he came back so he could say goodbye. At the airport while waiting for his flight we talked about her and realized we could not say goodbye to her. We decided to make it official and admit defeat - she had won, we couldn't live without her. But then again, I think we've all won. She's is such a wonderful girl and we're so thrilled to be able to officially welcome her to our family.
So when you see a fawn coloured streak in front of the webcam, know that this is Phoebe and she's probably destroying a stuffed animal and making Charlie chase her through the house. We love you Phebes!
